End of Times Nearing?

May 1, 2005 -- In my March 2004 commentary about Free Will and Consequences, I referenced reading the "Left Behind" saga series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, which is about the second coming of Jesus Christ as depicted by the book of Revelations in the bible's new testament (Christian).

Now, I know that non-Christian readers are probably thinking about not going any further with this read.  (More than a few Christians are probably thinking the same,  especially those who are ones in name only.)

However, everyone who believes in God should take a few minutes and contemplate along with me about God's patience relative to societal decisions and actions that are contrary to His ten commandments.  And while each in question can personalize a reason for a contrary action, I sincerely doubt that this type of rationalization is an acceptable explanation to the One who has the final say on the direction of everyone's eternal life.

My renewed soul searching started with the death of Pope John Paul II, which was a very moving, heart gripping moment for me.  I found myself reflecting on the greatness of this holy man and his true purpose.  That quickly led me to thoughts about my life . . . not just as a son, husband, father, and grandfather, but also as a child of God, whose eternal life (like all) began with physical form on earth . . . And just like the late Pope John Paul II and the new holy father, Pope Benedict XVI.

Well, after looking inward, my thoughts turned to what has been going on in the world lately, which makes me wonder about God's patience.  Is it wearing thin and near its end?  Is mankind in danger of crossing the line where more continue to disregard without remorse one or more of His tenets?

It is somewhat amazing that as mankind's advancement in science and technology continues there seems to be more of a disassociation with God by some.  Then there are those who murder in His name including by committing suicide, which is the greatest sin of all.  There are also the acts of genocide going on in various countries.

Yes, I know the same could be said about what took place under Hitler, Stalin, and other leaders during the 1930's to 1950's.  However, it is the collective actions of mankind that I am talking about . . . and it is a sobering thought of God's patience wearing thin as He continues to witness a growing erosion in true belief of Him through honoring His tenets.  Is the line crossed when more have walked away from Him than follow His will?

I am not trying to be an alarmist or a predictor of the end of times . . . just trying to provoke thought about the limit of God's Patience.  Nor should anyone who remains faithful to God have anything to worry about.
