God Bless Them

The young man
stood proudly strong in stoic silence,
his eyes focused on the moment,
hearing the words read
as the medal was bestowed
for what he did
in harm's way.

Returning the salute given,
he then looked up
and whispered thanks,
which told so much more...
of being resolute
in all he holds dear
that overcame any fear
when death was near,
as he fought to defend
his beloved America
and the freedoms She gave
to him and all,
even willing
to take the ultimate fall.

And the same is so,
for the many brave ones
like him ... serving now,
before, and yet to come.

God bless them
for answering duty's call!
