Her Only Son

Christ on the cross being mourned by His mother Mary, Mary Magdalene, and St. John.

She looked upon
her suffering Son,
knowing His earthly stay
was nearly done.

Yet, her aching heart and sad tears
were filled with overwhelming love
for the gift of Him
these short thirty-three years
and His glorious return
to His Father above.

She had given Him
all that was her
from when
His wonderful life began
that blessed night
when the North Star
was oh so very bright,
never questioning
what was asked of her boy
in the name of God's will
that had come to be
this most solemn day.

So, when giving thanks and praise
to our Lord Jesus Christ
for mankind's salvation
remember
His virgin mother, Mary,
as she too
gave up her only Son.
