History's Warning

Do you hear the knocking on the door
from what happened before
on America's own shore?

It is always there,
constant in its reminding care
that each generation must remain aware
of those who wish America harm
always remaining vigilant to sound the next alarm,
never again falling into a national daze,
and preventing more very sad, tragic days
of what has been done
like Pearl Harbor and September 11, 2001.

There is no wishing well
to avoid another living hell.
There can no longer be heads remaining in the sand
to avoid taking a united stand.

Nor can we continue to point fingers of blame
when it is all about political shame,
as the consequences can be
just what America's enemies hope to see.

History's warning knock must be heard
about tragedies that have occurred
so each American fully understands
that living in the land of the free demands
a collective will from all in the home of the brave
to do what is necessary to protect and save.ax
