I Took The Walk

I took the walk in Washington, DC
and oh did I see
reminders of what made the USA be
and kept HER strong and free.

There is Abe Lincoln sitting high,
with his great words engraved nearby,
gazing with certainty towards
Washington's Monument that
towers above all
unyielding in its strength
and casting a long protective shadow.

And to their side
stands Thomas Jefferson
overlooking the land he helped
form and loved dearly...
And where many more
helped to defend America and Her friends
as the World War II, Korean War,
and Vietnam War memorials
reverently remind us all.

Then the eyes did mist
upon the view of all the white
at Arlington National Cemetery,
seeing the changing of the guard
to the Tomb of the Unknowns,
looking up at the Marines of Iwo Jima,
and the facial portraits of the fallen
in Afghanistan and Iraq.

All grab the patriot's heart,
giving so much more meaning
to who leads from the White House,
legislates at the Capitol,
is Supreme on legal matters...
and being a proud citizen of the USA!
